TheraCell has technology allowing the selection of stem cells at the point of care using a microfluidic cell sorting device. Adipose (fat) tissue is a good source of stem cells. TheraCell’s technology uses magnetic marker beads that are added to all but the selected cell population. Our microfluidic device then uses a magnetic field to sort the cells and separate out the unwanted cells. Only the cells that are discarded have markers added to them and so the stem cell population to be used in the patient is unchanged. The proof of concept of the technology has been demonstrated in a laboratory prototype sorting device.
